Grown-up Storytime

This series of tales written by local authors and read by expert story readers takes place the third Tuesday of every month at 9pm at Rudyard’s British Pub, 2019 Brimberry St., 77018. Come to listen, or submit your own story. $5

The Moth

Held at monthly Warehouse Live, 813 St. Emanuel St., 77003, The Moth Story SLAM is an open-mic storytelling competition. Open to anyone with a five-minute story sto share on the night’s theme. Come tell your story, or just enjoy the show. Click for upcoming showtimes. $15

Intro to Improv Class

Station Theater, 1230 Houston Ave., is a great way to try imporv comedy. The Level 0 class starts at 7 pm every Friday and your free ticket allows you to stay for the 8 pm class and maybe even jump on stage. Register in advance, but entry is free.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Held at midnight on select Saturdays at River Oaks Theatre, 2009 West Gray St., 77019, the classic Rocky Horror Picture Show takes on a Chaotic twist with a live shadow cast. Click for dates and showtimes. $11.25

Poetry Lounge Sunday

Satisgy your craving for sophisticated entertainment with the longest running open mic poetry set in Houston, Held at Alley Kat Bar & Lounge, 3718 Main St, 77002, live poetry and DJ Guapo on the turntables brings both party and poetry. $10-$50

Rothko Chapel

A tribute to contemporary art, this serene chapel contains 14 paintings by the artist Mark Rothko. Located at 1409 sul Ross St, 77006. Free (donations appreciated)

Texas Art Asylum


A creative reuse center, specializing in cool stuff for creative reuse! Accepts clean, reusable art and craft materials from Houston's businesses and individuals and make them available for purchase by people who are looking for items with a little more character than you might be able to find in your average art or craft supply store.

Discover What’s Under Houston

Downtown’s "underground" is a system of tunnels 20 feet below Houston's downtown streets and more than 6 miles long. Having started out years ago as a tunnel between two downtown movie theaters, today it includes restaurants and service retail and connects 95 city blocks. Open M-F during the day. Click for a map. Community Readings

Inprint House, 1520 West Main St. hosts The First Friday Series - the oldest poetry series in Houston and has been held monthly on the first Friday of each month since 1975. The featured poet is always followed by an open mike. Readings begin at 8:30 pm. Readings are free and open to the public.
